Bedbug

Appearance

Bedbugs are not always easy to detect because they are more activate during the night. They are tiny, oval and flat. Usually, they are reddish-brown, but can also be gray.

Signs of Infestation
If you see blood stains on the bed, it is quite possible that there is a bedbug infestation. Other signs include itching and signs of bites on the skin (they look something like mosquito bites).

Ant (General)

Appearance

An ant’s colour depends on the species. Grease ants, for example, may be pale yellow, light brown or dark brown. The colour of pavement ants can range from black to light brown. Most other types of ants you will find in houses are black ants.

If you often see ants travelling along the same path, this is a preliminary sign of infestation.

Carpenter Ant

Appearance

The colour of carpenter ants is blackish with some shades of red or brown. The size varies by type. For example, the workers are between 3 to 13 mm, while queens can measure more than 2.5 cm. The queens are also the only female to have wings. Carpenter ants also have 2 antennas and powerful mandibles.

Signs of Infestation
If you see little piles of sawdust on the ground, this is a good indication there might be carpenter ants in your home.

Cockroach

Apparence

The German cockroach is pale brown, oval and flat shaped. It has 2 dark brown lines on the thorax and has fine antennae, long legs and 2 pairs of wings. Adults can measure up to 15 millimeters.

Cockroaches can leave behind small black spots around the cracks and gaps of your cupboards.

Wasp

Appearance

Wasps measure between 1 and 2.5 cm. They are black with some yellow, white or brown stripes. They have wings and a pair of antennas.

A wasp nest is the most common sign that there are wasps around your home.

Spider

Appearance

Spiders have 8 legs and 2 mandibles. Their body is divided into 2 parts (the abdomen and cephalothorax)connected by the waist.

A proliferation of spider webs is the most common sign of infestation.

Earwig

Appearance

Earwigs are flat and reddish brown. They are between 1 and 2 cm long and have 2 pincers at the end of the abdomen. They also have a pair of long antennae attached to the head.

Signs of Infestation
A ruined garden or the presence of earwigs in the home are signs of an earwig infestation in the area.
